Book Banning: Where Does It Stop!

https://youtu.be/aV9vvae1ogw

A book is more than paper and ink. It is an idea. A question. A story. A lesson from the past. A window into another person’s life. Today, across our communities, some books are being removed from school libraries because certain individuals believe those ideas should not be available to every student. But we must ask ourselves a simple question: Where does it stop? If we allow one group to decide which ideas are acceptable, what happens when another group comes into power with different beliefs? Could history books be removed because they challenge a preferred narrative? Could scientific discoveries be rejected because they conflict with someone’s views? Could religious texts, including the Bible, be considered unacceptable by another group? Freedom is strongest when it protects ideas we agree with and ideas we do not. Our children become stronger by learning to think critically, ask questions, examine evidence, and discuss differences with respect. Parents have an important role in guiding what their own children read. But no single person, school board, or political movement should have the power to decide what your child is allowed to read or not read. A democracy depends on an informed citizenry. The moment we allow fear to replace curiosity, or censorship to replace conversation, we risk losing something far greater than a single book. Protect our children. Protect their ability to think. Protect their freedom to explore ideas. Protect our American right to Free Speech. This message was brought to you by the Democrats of Southwest Riverside County.
